Props as used by Drake Bell in his role as Rick Riker/Dragonfly in Superhero Movie.
PROVENANCE: These pieces were acquired from a well-known studio liquidator, and are both secured by their respective CoA. Each item is also accompanied by a hard copy of the original auction listing. (see images, bottom)
AUTHENTICITY: Per the CoA for the ring: “Rich Riker Screen Used Gold Ring“. Per the original auction listing: “Straight from the set of Superhero Movie, this is Rick Riker’s (Drake Bell) screen used gold ring w/ R set in middle…”
*NOTE(s): Some interesting things occurred on these purchases. Firstly, the original auction description states that (and the picture at bottom shows…) the ring will come with a “band-aid‘ around the bottom, “as used in production“. A band-aid is often an indicator of wear by the actor in question. This ring arrived with no such band-aid attached. This leads me to believe that rather than being worn, this may have been one of the props held for close-up shots.
Secondly, the sketchbook prop was listed in a rather ‘low-key’ style, with no professions of screen-use. The auction appeared to simply state that this was some sketchbook, from the set. As it turned out, there are a half dozen hand-drawn and colored sketches inside this prop that unarguably screen-match! And it doesn’t end there! This prop sketchbook is full of additional hand-drawn and colored sketches that were not shown in the movie. A very pleasant surprise, and a good example of one of the true joys this great hobby has to offer!
A few of the other sketches not seen in the film:
I hope you enjoyed perusing these fun props, and Happy Collecting!
First off, I would like to extend a sincere thank-you to a friend in the hobby without whom, I would never have had the opportunity to acquire this amazing film prop. A hearty “Yippee Ki-Aye” goes out to Simon over at www.DieHardProps.com! Thanks, Simon!
This exact prop was used in the final cut of The Mexican, for an extreme close-up shot. This allows us to see that every detail of this passport indeed matches to the one shown on-screen.

Hero prop passport and signature blue-lens sunglasses as used by Brad Pitt throughout his portrayal of Jerry Welbach in The Mexican (2001).
PROVENANCE: Acquired in 2007 with signed, dated and documented provenance. Each piece is formally authenticated by the credited Property Master on the film.
AUTHENTICITY: These pieces are authenticated in detail by Mr. Tomlinson, in the LoA’s. (see images, bottom) A selection from the passport LoA: “This passport is one of four passports made up for use by the Jerry Welbach character in the film, of which two hero passports were screen used.” And, “…this passport was the only one of its kind to be made up featuring Brad with this particular expression on his face, and can be seen in the extreme close up as the check in clerk opens it up to view the main page details.”
A selection from the sunglasses LoA: “…sunglasses worn on screen by Brad Pitt during his role as ‘Jerry Welbach’ in the 2001 production of The Mexican.“ And, “This pair of sunglasses was one of three ‘hero’ pairs of glasses I had for the character of Jerry. All three pairs were worn during filming.”
*NOTE: The LoA’s are a good read; they give some cool little insights into the filming process from a longtime industry professional.
Car Thief: If you’re going to kill me at least tell me who it is that’s going to send me to God. Tell me! Jerry: Look, I’m not going to kill you. But I am going to have to shoot you. Car Thief: But why, sir? Why? Jerry: Why? Why? Because you stole from me and you know about the pistol and you’re just gonna steal again and I can’t have you coming back in the situation like a fly in the ointment. Car Thief: No, I won’t be a fly! You’ll never see me again. Jerry: Look, you’re getting shot and that’s it. It will take you time to get to the next town especially if you’re limping. Car Thief: Wait! Wait! What? Limping? Can’t you just tie me up some more? I mean, fuck, you shoot me? Tie me! Jerry: Yeah. I don’t have a rope. Car Thief: So you shoot me? Jerry: It’s the American way.
