March 26th, 2010 by PropCollector

Desperate Housewives (T.V.) – Wisteria Lane Set

As you can see from the activity on-set, filming was taking place on this day!

Scenes from Spartacus (1960) were originally filmed on the set above.

L: Uncle Buck’s cabin set from The Great Outdoors (1988).  Fully functional/habitable dwelling.

R: ‘Ocean’ set with massive backdrop facade.  This set has been used on films such as The Truman Show, O Brother Where Art Thou?, Van Helsing (2004) and many others.

Apparently the partial set pictured above is under construction for a sequel to King Kong (2005)

Whoville!  Apologies for the ‘through a window with droplets on it’ snapshot…all I got of this cool set from How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)!

Oh!  One more Whoville pic…and some set pieces from the Jurassic Park Trilogy.

War of the Worlds (2005)!  This amazing set was used in the making of this Spielberg film!

March 24th, 2010 by PropCollector

While in Hollywood, CA on March 14th and 15th, 2010 I was fortunate to get many pictures while touring Universal Studios Theme Park and Backlot.

Coming soon is a photo gallery archive of the trip for you to enjoy!

Here are a few fun ones to start [L to R: Psycho(x1 pic), JAWS(x2), Waterworld(x2), Fast & Furious Tokyo Drift(x3)]:

This is the original Psycho set as seen in the 1960′s thriller.

The JAWS portion of the tour is a themed re-creation.  Some original pieces are believed used in its creation.

The Waterworld attraction is a live-show in the theme of the film.

The Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift stunt-car rig was used to film scenes for the movie.

More soon! :)

Capt. Jack Ross’ USMC Formal Jacket, Shirt, Pins & Medals, A Few Good Men

March 22nd, 2010 by PropCollector

A United States Marine Corps formal dress jacket with marksman’s medals & campaign ribbon pin dressings, worn by Kevin Bacon in his portrayal of Captain Jack Ross in A Few Good Men (1992).  Khaki dress shirt (no collar pins) is also a screen-used original.

PROVENANCE: Obtained from a professional dealer, and is accompanied by their CoA (see image, bottom).  Upon further inquiry, I was informed by this dealer that the original source for this costume was a well-known, and longtime studio authorized seller (ReelClothes).  As of this post, I have not yet confirmed this with the original seller, however I do believe it to be true and accurate information.

AUTHENTICITY: Per the dealer CoA: “Worn on screen by Kevin Bacon as ‘Capt. Jack Ross’.”  There are multiple studio markings, as well as tags to identify the costume’s character. (see images, below right) (tags/markings are not all shown here)

*NOTE:The jacket is missing the left lapel pin, and a button on the left hip pocket).

“Lt. Kaffee is gonna try to put on a little magic act here. He’s gonna try a little misdirection. He’ll astound you with stories of rituals, and dazzle you with official-sounding terms – like Code Red. He might even try to cut into a few officers for you. He’ll have no evidence mind you, none . . . but it will be entertaining.”  -Capt. Jack Ross’ opening statement in the case of the United States Gov’t Vs. Pfc. Louden Downey and Lance Cpl. Harold W. Dawson

Hero Prop Garden Pruners, Prison Break

March 8th, 2010 by PropCollector

*SPOILER ALERT – IF YOU HAVE NOT, BUT PLAN TO WATCH SEASON 1 OF THIS GREAT T.V. SERIES, READING THIS POST WILL REVEAL SOME IMPORTANT EVENTS IN THE STORY.*

From arguably the most shocking and memorable sequence from season 1 of Prison Break, these are the Hero garden pruners used by John Abruzzi and his thugs to cut off Michael’s left pinky toe.

PROVENANCE: Obtained from original owner Fox Studios’ authorized seller.  Item is secured and accompanied by the original studio C of A as well as a hard copy of the original auction listing. (images, bottom right)

AUTHENTICITY: Per the original auction listing: “This is a screen used garden tool from the Season 1, episode titled, ‘Cell Test’.  This prop item was used in production to cut off Michael’s toe.”

Abruzzi’s Cellmate: I say we take his whole foot.

Abruzzi: We could cut off all his limbs. He still wouldn’t talk. Pain is not the answer here. Maybe the Beatles were right after all – maybe all you need is love.
